  • How do you read the defects from the AQL result?
With the development of foreign trade in recent years, many foreign clients ask China inspection company to help them inspect their goods in China ,which is cost saved and convenient .when they get an very detail inspection report, in fact and honesty, same people don`t really know about AQL result on an inspection report . What is AQL? How is the AQL result should to be read? The AQL standard takes into account the probability of having this defect on the whole batch of goods only. Its purpose is to provide information about the defects available compared to the acceptance quality limits of reference. Its very useful to identify the major defects in production, however it remains a probability. It is natural for many people to calculate the percentage of defects over the sample size and then estimate the number of defective goods on the whole lot. but actually it`s not correct. For example: on a 1000 Pcs order, if we take a sample size of 100 pcs and found 30 pcs are defective, it does not mean that there will be in total of 30 defective pieces on the total order. the only way to know the total defective quantity is to check the total order quantity. How should we read the AQL table result? First, you should analyze each defect; pay attention to each classification of defects. because there is always the probability that the number of defects on the overall order could be higher or lower than the AQL result. Second, ask youself: Is it acceptable for you if present in a higher quantity on the total order? if not you should ask your supplier to improve the quality of their products. Also, in a inspection report, the inspector will report some defects separately on the comment, if these defects appears on too many samples (>10%-20 % of the sample size in general). We usually call these defects [general defect" same times, it can be a minor defect, same times; it can be a major defect. In any case, you should pay close attention to these defects, because it is likely to be present in a high percentage on whole batch of goods

  • What`s First Article Inspection(FAI)
As a professional third party inspection company, we can provide many different types of inspections during the different period of production, and even during the loading of shipping containers. But there is a inspection called First Article Inspection (FAI), it also called Initial Quality Control. But what is a First Article Inspection and is it useful? First, the FAI takes place when factory started to produce the first mass production samples, usually when 1%-10% of your order has been produced. It focuses on the quality of the finished products, not the quality of the raw materials which is done during a Pre-Production Inspection. The products are compared to the sample, in order to find any potential problems with the product early on. In order to comfirm all of the raw materials have arrived at the factory, inspector also check the status (such as the storage conditions) and the quantity of the raw materials ,but the goal of the FAI is to inspect the quality of the products that have been finished, and find any defects that may exist. Now, you will found that FAI can save much time and money, because the potential problems and defects can be corrected early in the process instead of when all the goods have been produced. Factory don`t need to finding defects at the end of production and having to reproduce everything any more. From what has been discussed above, First Article Inspection can save the factory importer valuable time and money, also well for clients. Last but not least, after First Article Inspection, you will to perform a better inspection such as a Pre-shipment Inspection, and make sure the factory have taken all necessary steps to correct any defects. Then after that you will get a good result for your shipment

  • 5 types of different quality inspection services
General there are five types of quality inspection services and each one corresponds to a particular step in the production process. They are all part of the useful tool for every importer, when it comes to from China or Asia. Below we would like to summarize the options available to anyone would like to know, as in a visual manner. Please be noted all Asia quality inspection services are not adapted to the same situation: First Article Inspection: Will attests that all engineering, design and specification requirements are rightly understood, accounted for, verified, and recorded. The inspection takes place at factory floor right after the manufacturer starts producing the first mass production samples. A complete, independent, and documented physical and functional inspection process is conducted. Pre-production inspection: tells the buyer which kind of raw materials (or components) will be used. Factories are often suspected of lowering their costs by purchasing substandard materials, and this can be disastrous for the buyer (e.g. the wrong kind of chip in an electronic device). The pre-production inspection can also focus on the processes followed as production starts. Sometimes this can also be critical if the factory not respect your approved samples or specification of pattern. During production inspection: (Often called DUPRO or DPI in the industry) allows the buyer to have an idea of average product quality, early in the production cycle. It is the most useful and the most under-rated tool at the disposal of importers, who often only rely on final inspections. It usually takes place once some finished products(20%-50%) have come out of the lines. If quality issues are found, what is already produced might be re-workable, and corrective actions can be taken for the rest of the job. It gives buyers the time to plan ahead, and even to avoid delays (repairs and re-inspections take much more time when problems are noticed after all production is finished). Final random inspection: (Also called [pre-shipment inspection") is by far the most common type of quality inspection services. It takes place once 100% of shipment quantity is finished and at least 80% is packed, so it can be a real random inspection (this is not exactly the case if quality is checked earlier) and suppliers cannot play games. It puts pressure on suppliers and gives power to buyers. Its objective is really to confirm a shipment`s quality, rather than catching issues early. Therefore I usually advise my clients to complement final inspections with a DUPRO, to avoid finding disasters at the last minute. Container loading supervision: (Also called Container loading inspection)Ensures that the correct styles, sizes and quantities have been loaded correctly and safely onto the container. It happens in the manufacturer`s warehouse or the forwarder`s premises, Not only the loading of the correct products and its quantity are supervised during the supervision but also the correct packaging and the quality of the goods are inspected. It can be useful if the buyer has a precise loading plan and needs it to be respected very precisely (e.g. some cartons are too fragile to be placed at the bottom), or if the packaging is not conventional (e.g. some garments hung on bars, with no carton protection). It can also ensure that the right kind of products are shipped out in the right quantity, when the importer places no trust in his supplier or when several suppliers bring their products for consolidation. Seldom projects require all four types of inspection. Generally, only one or two of these tools are used, depending on the risks identified by the buyer.

  • What to do with before booking a quality inspection early
In the recent years, the E-Commerce market grows up quickly, many small importers start buying in China, online or offline to contact the suppliers directly, but they feeling a need for quality control (QC) after got failure times, here is what buyers need to know to take full advantage of product inspections and booking it when you set up the importing and booking a quality inspection. Defining clear expectations Arranging a QC inspection will force you to get organized and to define your expectations. The inspection company will ask you to prepare product requirements or specifications regarding the sizes, tests, technical data, packaging, They can also suggest some elements to check, if necessary in relation with a laboratory. then proceed to prepare the checklist for your product. Note: Please be noted that not to let your supplier choose inspection company for you because their interest is to make the inspection easy to pass. Let your supplier know about inspections and booking early When start your working with supplier, telling your supplier that a shipment will be inspected has a direct impact on how careful they will be with your production. So you should also ask your supplier to confirm an inspection date in advance. booking a quality inspection from you signed third party inspection company. In case of a final inspection (Pre-shipment shipment), the inspection booking date should be send at least 3 days earlier than the ex-factory date (which itself is several days before the shipment date). Tie payments to quality inspection acceptance You should mention that an accepted inspection report will be necessary for triggering the final payment. Write it into the order contract, and/or in the letter of credit. This is the best signal you can send to your supplier: you are serious about quality and he should be, too. However, don`t put too much pressure on your supplier. Some buyers say: [you can`t ship unless I see a passed report, and you pay for air freight if you miss the deadline". This is counter-productive, for two reasons. First, many inspections are failed for reasons that are actually acceptable for the buyer. So the buyer always has the final word. Second, a desperate factory often tries to bribe the inspector. What you should tell your supplier is this: The report will be a basis for communication between us. I expect you to respect my quality standard, and we`ll advise what to do if issues are noticed. I count on you to facilitate the inspector`s job; and any type of bribery is strictly forbidden.

  • What a Quality Inspector will do in a quality inspection?
A quality inspector examines products and materials for defects or deviations from manufacturer or industry specifications. They ensure that your ceiling light will not stop work, that your coffee maker will run properly, and that your pants will not split the first time you wear them. These workers monitor quality standards for nearly all manufactured products, including textiles, clothing, glassware, motor vehicles, electronic components, computers, and structural steel. Specific job duties vary across the wide range of industries in which these inspectors work. Quality inspector: Read and understand blueprints and specifications Monitor or observe operations to ensure that they meet production standards Recommend adjustments to the process or assembly Inspect, test, or measure materials or products being produced Measure products with rulers, calipers, gauges, or micrometers Accept or reject finished items Remove all products and materials that fail to meet specifications Discuss inspection results with those responsible for products Report inspection and test data Quality control workers rely on a number of tools to do their job. Although some still use hand-held measurement devices, such as calipers and alignment gauges, they more commonly operate electronic inspection equipment, such as coordinate-measuring machines (CMMs). Inspectors testing electrical devices may use voltmeters, ammeters, and ohmmeters to test potential difference, current flow, and resistance, respectively. Quality control workers record the results of their inspections and prepare test reports. When they find defects, inspectors notify supervisors and help to analyze and correct the production problems. In some firms, the inspection process is completely automated, with advanced vision inspection systems installed at one or several points in the production process. Inspectors in these firms monitor the equipment, review output, and do random product checks. What is the workplace of a Quality Inspector like? Work environments vary by industry and establishment size. As a result, some inspectors examine similar products for an entire shift. Others examine a variety of items. In manufacturing, it is common for most inspectors to stay at one workstation. Quality Inspector in some industries may be on their feet all day and may have to lift heavy objects. In other industries, workers may sit during their shift and read electronic printouts of data. Workers in heavy-manufacturing plants may be exposed to the noise and grime of machinery. In other plants, inspectors work in clean, air-conditioned environments suitable for testing products. Although the work is generally not dangerous, some workers may be exposed to airborne particles, which may irritate the eyes and skin. As a result, workers typically wear protective eyewear, ear plugs, and appropriate clothing. Although most quality inspectors work full time during regular business hours, some inspectors work evenings or weekends. The most desirable shifts are generally given to workers who have seniority. Overtime may be required to meet production deadlines.

  • What`s Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) in Garment Inspection?
What is Acceptable Quality Level (AQL)? The term AQL stands for acceptable quality level or acceptance quality level. It is one of the most used terms in garment industry when it comes in consideration to quality. It should be noted here that, most of the acceptance decisions of export shipments are made on the basis of AQL based random sampling plans. To ensure the right quality products, an AQL chart has to follow during quality inspection of apparel which varies even buyer to buyer. Acceptable Quality Level (AQL) refers to the maximum number of defective items that could be considered accepted during the random sampling of a pre-shipment inspection. It is expressed in a percentage (%) number of average defective items where average defective item is the multiple result of total number of defective items found during inspection and total number of items were inspected. AQL in Garment Inspection The faults or defects which are found during a garment inspection are mainly classified into 3 categories: Critical: Must be 100% accurate. There is no range. Major: Normally 2.5% Minor: Normally 4% Please refer to the AQL table and better to know the sample size, number of defective items were acceptable for make a decision with your shipment, also you can refer to our sample report for the AQL used

  • Why importers use or not use third party quality inspection service?
As international importers whom buy from China or Asia, what`s your greatest fear during the importing process? Is that your product won`t match specifications when you receive it? or you are afraid factory didn`t perform the right tests to ensure your product meets regulations in your market? Or maybe you`re mostly concerned about shipping delays and risk of shipping. Many importer admit product inspection helps them avoid most of these problems and many others. Having the inspector visit the factory before shipping ensures your expectations are met. It also gives you the transparency to forecast any potential delays in production or shipping. But why some importers might choose not to outsource quality inspection to a third-party QC company? and some importers choose to work close with the QC company? Why some importers don`t use third party quality inspection There are some clear advantages to working with a third-party for product QC. but there are also a couple valid reasons why an importer might choose not to. Though not every importer will find these reasons apply to them specifically, as they`re worth considering. Different inspectors inspecting at different times Some importers prefer to have the same inspector checking their goods each time when they need an inspection. Their concern product quality inspection is often that changing inspectors will cause inconsistent reporting and results. They also feel that they can ensure the inspector is very familiar with their product by having the same person check their orders each time. It`s true that all product requirements and other relevant information must be transferred each time a new person conducts inspection of the product. However, established third-party inspection companies typically employ multiple staff that are familiar and qualified to inspect a particular product type. And it`s generally wise to rotate inspectors regularly to avoid potential integrity issues, which we`ll discuss in a bit. Limited communication with on site inspectors Importers typically don`t communicate directly with quality inspectors when working with a third-party QC company. Instead, they often deal with a client manager, or account manager, as their main point of contact. This contact relays information, such as product requirements and inspection criteria, between the importer and relevant staff in the QC company. So there`s an extra layer of separation between the importer and the person who will actually to perform the inspection Some importers might worry about to get less reliable inspection results if they`re not able to communicate their requirements directly to the inspector, even though working through a client manager can actually improve communication. Why other importers prefer third party quality inspection Besides third-party inspection, importers may choose to rely on their factory`s own QC staff, or hire someone full-time to inspect or inspect the product themselves. We`ve looked at reasons why you might hesitate to outsource inspection to a third-party. Now let`s examine the common advantages to importers that use third-party inspection. 1. Smooth communication through bilingual staff One of the worries an importer might have with working with a third-party is that they may not have direct contact with the inspector. But communicating through a client manager or similar person can actually be a real advantage. Client managers at a third-party inspection company are typically fluent or proficient in both English and the local language. They`re also typically foreign employees or staff that have been educated abroad. These qualities serve you because: The client manager is less likely to misunderstand your expectations than the inspector, who may or may not be able to speak English and Since the client manager often has experience abroad, they`re better able to understand you on a cultural level, In short, importers often appreciate having a dedicated client manager that`s available and easy to communicate with. 2. Reduced risk of integrity issues Integrity issues are not uncommon in supply chains. And importers are right to be concerned. Bribery and other forms of corruption can occur, But there are ways that professional inspection companies help to prevent them. Corruption often takes subtler forms than outright bribery, which can make it harder to identify and prevent. For example, factory staff might offer to provide lunch or transportation to an inspector. The problem is that seemingly innocent gestures like these can affect the inspector`s judgement when they`re writing a report of the order status and quality. One of the best ways to prevent this is by rotating inspectors so that no inspector gets too familiar with staff and management at a factory. Third-party inspection firms are well-prepared to rotate staff, as they often have multiple inspectors available in different service areas. These companies also tend to have strict policies in place that forbid their staff to accept any gifts or other gratuities. Ultimately, corruption can still be difficult to catch and prevent, even when precautions are taken. But importers are often exposed to less risk when working with third-party product inspection than with other inspection methods. 3. Flexibility and limited obligation Third-party inspection companies typically offer a high degree of flexibility. For example, you may want your inspection report to be issued in a certain format. Or you may want the inspector to use a certain testing method for your product. But perhaps the most valuable point of flexibility is in arranging inspections. Third-party inspectors are contractors typically hired on an as-needed basis. That means you have no long-term contracts or other obligations. When you have an upcoming order that needs inspection you can book the service within a few days without the need for a contractual agreement. Of course, some importers may prefer to sign a long-term contract if it guarantees them competitive pricing for the service. But most importers enjoy the flexibility of being able to inspect their products without one. 4. Lower costs and higher efficiency One of the greatest advantages to importers that use third-party inspection is that it`s often less expensive and more efficient than alternative methods of inspection. For example, performing inspection yourself requires you to travel abroad to the factory that`s manufacturing your product. Third-party inspectors typically have a wide network of locally-based staff that are much closer to the factory.product inspection Another cost consideration is travel expenses, which can be significant. Let`s say you have a full-time inspector employed in Hanoi, but you need an inspection in Ho Chi Minh City. That inspector would need to travel from the far end of Vietnam in the north to the other end in the south. A third-party inspection company with staff based at both ends of Vietnam would help you reduce the cost and time needed to conduct inspection. The cost of third-party inspection is relatively low because these companies` wide coverage areas make them highly efficient (related: 5 Reasons for High Product Inspection Costs). And because you only pay third-party inspectors when you need them, they`re often less expensive than a full-time inspector-who you`d be paying whether they were working or not. 5. Related services offered One more common reason importers choose to work with a third-party inspection company is that these firms sometimes offer a set of related services, in addition to inspection. So you might benefit from having the same company manage not only your product inspections, but also any supplier evaluations or lab testing you need. For example, many importers prefer to audit a potential supplier`s facility before placing their first order with them. They might need a social compliance audit to ensure the factory meets Walmart`s standards for responsible sourcing (related: How Importers Meet Walmart Ethical Sourcing Standards). Or they might just want to audit the factory`s quality management systems based on ISO 9001 standards. It can be helpful to have a kind of [one-stop shop" that can assist you with most or all of your supply chain needs. And many importers appreciate that the same third-party inspection firm can help with other areas of their supply chain. Conclusion Third-party product inspection isn`t the best QC option for every importer. But there are some compelling reasons why many importers continue to prefer it to other inspection methods. There are also other importers that rely on a hybrid of methods. For example, you may choose to hire a full-time inspector for areas where you need routine inspections frequently. But you might also hire a third-party inspection company to service areas where orders are produced less regularly. Each individual importer might choose to use one or more inspection method based on certain factors, such as their budget, relationship with their supplier and history of product quality. The best QC solution for you will depend on your own situation. Just make sure that your product is actually being inspected by someone qualified. Checking the goods and addressing any issues before shipping is almost always better than crossing your fingers and hoping nothing goes wrong.

  • Knowledge of Pre-shipment inspection or Final Random Inspection
Pre-shipment inspection , also spelled Final random inspection or PSI , is a part of supply chain management and an important quality control method for checking the quality of goods clients buy from suppliers. PSI ensures that production complies with specifications of the buyer and/or the terms of a purchase order or letter of credit. A final random inspection (FRI), checks finished products when an order has been 100% produced and at least 80% of export-packed. Samples are selected at random, according to standards and procedures. Advantages of Final Random Inspection There are lots of benefits to a PSI/FRI, but most people agree that guaranteeing the quality of goods produced overseas, at the place where they were manufactured, is its final solution? This quality control procedure also saves a fair bit of time. Once the goods are in the country of destination, correcting faults becomes costly and requires additional shipping and time delays. Identifying any faults and errors in the batch before you ship will be more easier for suppliers to rectify any issues Pre-shipment inspection can diminish risks inherent to Internet commerce like phishing and fraud. Whether you use in-house staff or a third-party quality control agency, there is a single standard for sampling procedures and acceptance criteria that the majority of PSI inspectors follow. Acceptance Quality Limit Table (AQL Table) The so-called AQL Table is widely used for consumer goods Pre-Shipment Inspections in Asia and throughout the world. This clever model uses statistical number crunching to define the highest acceptable number of defects in a batch (i.e. how many faults a buyer can tolerate) before it is rejected. The AQL varies between industries, so it always provides a balanced, unbiased view. You can further tailor it to your needs based on your quality expectations. Sampling Plans Inspectors won`t test every item individually. Instead, they`ll use sampling plans (cf. ISO 2859 or ANSI/ASQ Z1.4-2008) to determine how many samples they need to pick randomly to get an accurate overview of the quality of the whole shipment. This means savings in time and money for you - particularly useful if your inspection date is close to shipping. The general inspection level III is the most extensive check and samples a larger portion of the shipment compared to a general inspection Level I test at the lower end of the scale. Choosing your AQL general inspection level will depend on the quality risk you are facing and the type of products you are checking. For general consumer goods, we recommend at least a general inspection level II, while automotive or medical products should be tested at the general inspection level III. Inspection Defect Classification Depending on the needs of the importer, sampling during the pre-shipment inspection can be used to verify different measures of quality. One of the most commonly used within the consumer goods sourcing industry is to classify the defects as either: critical, major or minor and define an acceptance quality limit (AQL) for each one of them, then AQL Table will be completed in final inspection report.

  • 5 type of different Sampling method in garment quality control inspection
All the retailers want to buy high quality products from manufacturers, to sell the product to their customers, so we need to follow various methods of inspection techniques, depends on the customers wants and needs.when the inspector controls the quality of your shipment from China or Asia, how would you like him to help for you? how many pieces of garment been sampling and checked? What are the methods of sampling? Sampling methods are used to determine how we will choose the batch to be checked. Usually, an inspector only checks a part of the whole. A portion should be enough in order to determine the quality of the items to be delivered. Which sampling method should you use for your production? This is a crucial part since it can dictate the outcome of your inspection. Choosing the inappropriate plan may lead to inaccurate inspection results. below we will take the chance to simply introducing the different types of sampling plans for your reference Example below for sampling methods in garment industry, the main purpose of inspection is to know about the lot of garments to be granted or rejected. How many sample would be collected from a lot will be the aim of sampling plan. Also informed that, if more sample would be inspected needs more time and cost. Below available sampling-methods which are widely used for ensuring desired quality of garments manufactured by using various types of fabric: No Sampling inspection, 100% Inspection, Spot checking, Arbitrary sampling, Acceptance sampling. All the above sampling methods have discussed in the following: 1. No Sampling Inspection: In this sampling method, the garments can be bought or sold without any sampling inspection. it just check the outer carton and random check the packages, but it can`t get any idea about the garment workmanship. you may choose this sampling method in some container loading inspection 2. 100% Inspection(Full inspection ): 100% inspection also calls full inspection, means every unit must be inspected. In this method, it is decided about that every pieces of garment would be granted or rejected instead the lot of garments to be granted or reject ted. It can have an idea about the quality of garments by this sampling method. It is also informed that, all the defects are identified by 100% inspection. Also informed that, if 100% inspections is done then needs more time and cost. 3. Spot Checking: This is the middle position of 100% inspections and no inspection methods. The goods which are made for shipment are inspected randomly. In this method, the result is found minimum. some customer also choose it for check the raw materials, semi-finished products or container loading inspection. 4. Arbitrary Sampling: This type of method is most popular and widely used in apparel manufacturing sector. Whatever the lot size available is, 10% sample of the lot is collected and inspected and will decide the lot of garments to be granted or rejected. Both the advantages and disadvantages are found by applying this method. 5. Acceptance Sampling(AQL, Single-stage sampling plan): In this sampling method, samples are collected and inspected by statistically from the lot size and will decide the lot of garments to be granted or rejected. This plan is used for inspection of raw materials before garments production, during production period, and for finished garments after production(final inspection). This sampling method is widely used and internationally recognized and accepted. also the most popular method in any third party inspection company, Most useful advantage of this method is controllable and minimum risk of accepting wrong decision. and this method for inspection also more practical and economical. • Proper quality inspection sampling method to help achieve accurate shipment inspections
Sampling is an important part of a random inspection, proper quality inspection sampling method to help achieve accurate shipment inspections The sampling phase is often overlooked by many importers trying to cut back on inspection costs. However, the little money you save in forgoing some steps in inspection can result in your shipment incorrectly passing the requirement for a pass and you receiving a faulty inspection report you receive prior. Once the shipment arrives and is full of defects, you will struggle to trace back what occurred to most of the products when in theory, your shipment was not properly sampled by the foreign inspector. Below is a guide to help importers ensure proper quality control and take steps to guarantee shipment quality and trust worthy inspection report: Breakdown of Proper Quality Inspection Sampling Method · Evaluation/ Counting The inspector needs to first estimate the quantity and determine what different locations and stages of production the items to be shipped are in: packed, unpacked or still in the production stage. · Picking The next step would have to be strategic. The inspector would need to pick cartons of samples from all sides of the carton piles: top, bottom and center. Sometimes, factory managers can be evil-minded and have their workers hide defective pieces at the bottom of the piles. To ensure that the picking covers a varied selection from everywhere, you can request that the inspector take and send photos/videos of the different cartons and batch numbers chosen for the inspection report. · Lifting to Place of Inspection A good inspector needs to be aware that the carefully picked samples he has set aside can easily be replaced during transportation by factory staff. If he is to turn away or be distracted, there is a high risk of his inspection report being inaccurate since low-quality samples or defective products can be dubiously replaced. It is plausible to request that instead of beginning the inspection as the samples are still being transported, he waits to start the check for all cartons at once. · Phase Two Picking during Inspection Sampling needs to begin again when the carefully selected cartons from throughout the pile have reached the place of inspection. The inspector would need to take his time and do the job himself, selecting items from the top and bottom of each carton to add up to the requested sample size. This second round of picking is important since factory staff (under the direction of some manufacturers) often put all the high-quality samples on the top of each carton. · Avoiding part-inspection/double sampling Allowing the inspector to do his inspection in parts could also lead to an inaccurate passed` inspection report. Because of the risk of fowl play from the factory, early inspection which is ultimately carrying out a first sampling on say 60 or 80% of the shipment, then a second sampling when the 100% of products to be shipped are ready can highly increase the chances of getting substandard or defective products. Conclusion Regardless of the precautions you may take, there will always be the risk of receiving imports that do not meet your expected standards. Sampling needs to be thorough for all pre-shipment inspections and you would need to hire a reliable local QC firm that has qualified inspectors for the category of goods in your shipment. Skipping the sampling stage is common when you have used the same suppliers for a long period, but is often not worth the risk to save some costs.

  • 6 Reasons for Real Time Inspection is not a Good Solution.
Is Real Time Inspection a Good Solution? Real time inspection using Wechat or Whatsapp maybe a favourite to some buyers but is an idea that is bad 99% of the time. It sounds like a good idea but may lead to problems practically. As explained in an earlier article, first is product specifications, sample reviews follow before QC inspection. These steps ensure a client gets the right products from the manufacturer and avoids any possible mistakes. Real time inspection breaks the protocol exposing the buyer to various risks. Here are reasons why real time inspection is thus not recommended: 1. Confusion Take a scenario where the inspector selects samples which the manufacturing staff brings in under close supervision. He is to mark or stamp the boxes. He takes photos and sends to the buyer who requests for more pictures of specific aspects of the product. The inspector, while trying to fulfil this demands, may get confused and forget the steps. The company staff may return the boxes without labels which may result in the manufacturer changing the contents of the boxes. This confusion will, therefore, put the buyer at risk as opposed to following the inspection procedure that will ensure thorough checking. The interferences and interruptions are quite frankly an unwelcome idea. By the time the inspector readjusts to the interruptions, you can guess how many risks you have run into as a buyer. The agent at the manufacturing company is enough interruption already. 2. Timing The production procedure is a clearly laid down process which is meant to be seamless. By the time it gets to inspection, most of the processes are already complete and thus real time inspection may prove both out of time and a waste of valuable time. As a buyer, you need to be keener on the earlier processes like product specifications and sample inspection as opposed to last minute inspection complications. By the time it gets to inspection, it`s too late, and nothing much is doable. In case you want to remain within your time frame and end up with the perfect products, then you need to minimise real time inspection. It may sound unwelcome, but the result will justify the decision. 3. Straining Your Agent The procedure of inspecting is itself a tasking process that needs your inspecting agent to be alert all the time. Real time inspection strains your agent because of the additional tasks. Besides having to operate on the manufacturers` time frame, remote controlling your inspector changes the inspection from a perfect job to quite an enormous challenge where he or she has to battle hard to meet both your demands. The downside of strain is the decreased efficiency of the inspector. It may result in lower quality inspection which cannot be blamed on the inspector but rather on the buyer. You may need to let the inspection flow smoothly and in case photos and videos are sent to you appreciate the much that has been done and trust that the inspector will be your eyes and heart in the whole process. 4. Relationship with Inspector and Manufacturer As much as real time inspection gives you more control over your products, it may be costly to your relationship with the inspector and manufacturer. Buying may not be a one-time affair, and you may need to do it over and over again. When you frustrate the inspector through remote controlling them, you impact negatively on the relationship you and the inspector have. It thus may lead to running risks of either interfering with your business links to the inspecting agency and manufacturer or lowering the quality of services you get. A warm relationship will always attract better service but once you get on the nerves of some people who may not necessarily show you but there will be consequences. Let the good relationship guide the inspection, and you will be happy with the results. 5. No Guarantee Real time inspection has no guarantees that the products will meet your demands. Insisting on it may not change the outcome of the goods if there is no following of proper steps. There is a lot more that happens even beyond the inspection, and it will all depend on the inspector and the manufacturing staff. It is thus never a hundred percent sure that the real time images on WhatsApp and Wechat will change anything. In fact, the bother may create loopholes for the changes to the products that may happen right at the inspection stage. This fact means that you may as well just depend on the inspector to accomplish the work in the best possible way. Many experienced buyers give the inspector freedom to conduct his services the best way he can and most of the time get their products the way they want them. 6. Why Hire the Agent? Real time inspection grants you a virtual presence in the inspection room, and you get to check out the samples. This virtual presence thus raises the question; why hire an inspector while you can be there virtually with the help of the manufacturing staff? Therefore, when you hire an inspection agency, let them do their work. Let them take away the hustle from you. In any case, they are more efficient than your virtual presence. When you opt for the agent, sit back, relax and let him or her ensure you get the best of what you need and in case the products don`t meet your demands, you will be in a position to back-trace the problem easily. At the end of the day, the services paid for must deliver value for money. Conclusion Even though real time inspection allows you control over your products and the complete inspection, the many risks you run as a buyer make it inadvisable. It may feel like a nice idea, but in a real sense, it is not. With time, gaining more experience will enable you to realize it is better to let the inspector do their work and await results than interfering with real time inspection. The relationship you have and the seamlessness of the inspection may be interrupted by your demands during the real time inspection and lead to losses on your side.

  • What are the 6 specific actions can trigger corruption in Product Inspection?
As an importer or buyer when importing from China, you might heard that some of the behaviors that can trigger corruption in product inspection. Though some gestures from supplier staff are more direct than others. There are a number of various supplier staff in position may offer anything that can compromise that inspector`s judgement, including prevent integrity issues in product inspection. What are the 6 specific actions can trigger corruption in Product Inspection? Cash bribes – in China and some Southeast Asian countries, suppliers may attempt to bribe an inspector outright, typically by offering a Red envelope, which calls [hong bao" () in Mandarin. Red envelopes normally contain money and are commonly exchanged among friends on special occasions. Transportation – inspectors typically rely on public transportation to travel from their home or office to the inspection site. But factory managers sometimes offer to send a car for them, especially when the factory is located in a remote area. Meals – inspectors are normally responsible for their own lunch, but factory staff sometimes offer to provide a meal. Packaged gifts – such as alcohol, tea, cigarettes or other small goods. Accommodation – inspectors usually return home immediately after they complete inspection. But they will find local accommodation to stay overnight if the factory they`re visiting is far from home. Factory staff will sometimes offer to provide this accommodation. Invitations to after-service social activities – including dinner, karaoke or other social activities. Some of these may seem like innocuous, friendly gestures. But they`re often the first step by factory staff to building a rapport with the inspector. And as inspectors and factory staff become close, this relationship can make inspectors biased. What some symptoms of corruption do you know in product inspection reporting? how the corruption can affect the quality of reporting you receive for your products? check more articles in IQS inspection company.

  • Why Third party inspectors rarely provide importer corrective actions
Imagine that you decide to hire a third party QC company to check your products before the factory ships them. The QC company reports lots of defects on your products, and need corrective actions to fix them before shipping. What can you do to remedy these issues? You may think like normal importers that`s your inspectors` duty to work closely with factory staff to find out corrective actions and fix these problems at the source. But generally this isn`t the case. In fact, this belief that a QC inspectors role extends beyond simply finding and reporting problems. The reality is that third party quality inspectors rarely work with Chinese factory staff to find out corrective actions and fix the issues. So what`s stopping them? ability? or cost issue? but why do importers continue to rely on QC inspections to manage the quality of their shipments, despite this limitation? Let`s jump into why QC inspectors do not typically offer remedies to quality control problems and discover how they really benefit importers. Why QC inspection doesn`t directly solve your quality problems Product inspection isn`t product manufacturing, you can`t offload all your manufacturing concerns to a QC company and expect them to solve all of the problems at your supplier`s workshop, Professional QC inspectors are also limited in both their authority and scope of knowledge. Whether you`ve a hired a third party QC company , full-time inspector or you`re travelling from abroad to conduct inspection yourself, inspection has its limitations. Product inspectors aren`t qualified in root cause analysis, they aren`t Quality Analyst in factory. they usually lack the expertise needed to pinpoint the exact problem and advise the best solution. That are outside the capabilities of a typical product inspector. Even if the experienced inspector was able to find the root cause for problems and advise the solution, do you think the factory will rework the shipment 100% accordingly? Quality inspectors can`t tell factory staff what to do We all know that working with a factory to actually address any problems found during inspection requires cooperation from factory management and staff. And corrective actions, including product rework or any replacement, usually comes at a cost to the factory owner. The factory often needs to use more product parts & materials, as well as occupying production equipment and workers in the process. Depending on how valued you are as a customer, it can be difficult to get your Chinese supplier to comply. But it`s typically much less likely that your supplier will comply with a similar request from outside inspection staff. Third-party and other outside QC inspectors have no real authority to dictate how a factory operates their internal process. These staff are often limited to only visiting certain areas in a factory and reporting on certain aspects of production, It`s also common for factory staff to prohibit certain on-site tests you may have asked your inspectors to perform. though you have created a checklist for your inspectors. A factory`s own internal QC inspectors can and sometimes do dictate changes on the production line. They`re normally separate from ordinary line workers and report to a manager that has the authority to halt production. But most importers don`t rely on these staff for inspection, due to a usual lack of transparency and the risk of biased and unreliable reporting to the importer.

  • 3 important questions to ask yourself before product rework proceed
Any importer, whether novice or experienced gets overwhelmed with excitement, anticipation, and anxiety when a shipping date approaches. There is nothing that can break your heart at this time than discovering that your goods have unexpected quality defects. Sometimes the damage maybe is severe to the extent that the goods are un-sellable and you resolve to destroy the entire batch. There are chances that you might consider product rework before taking any other action. The decision on whether or not to ask your supplier to rework the damaged goods is not as easy as it sounds. Ask yourself the following vital questions before considering product rework. 1. How much will the product rework cost? Before asking your supplier for a rework, consider cost implications. As an importer, it is important that you recognize the cost the factory will incur in reworking on the products. When it is common for many importers to blame their suppliers for shoddy workmanship, it is also important that you consider the cost that you will incur before asking the importer to rework on defective goods. The cost incurred comes regarding; Time spent reworking defective goods Assume you had ordered 2,500 promotional t-shirts but at inspection, it reveals a common defect in all garments, a puckering affecting the neckline. This is a complex defect and asking the supplier to rework it means they will have to remove the stitching and re-sewing the neckline seam. Doing this to the entire batch will cost the factory a lot of time and especially because; The order is relatively small The product promotional hence low quality. If, however, your t-shirts had simpler issue such as untrimmed threads, the problem would be an easy and quick for the factory workers to fix. The factory will allocate a fewer number of workers since this requires less time to rework. This rework will probably not require rush and hence chances that of more quality issues after the rework are minimal. Reworking on defective goods can be expensive If the value of your goods is relatively low, rework can prove to be expensive. For instance consider defects in injection molded products. A close look at such products will reveal a seam remaining in the place where the two pieces of mold met during the process. Most modeled parts are commonly affected by this flash problem which form at the seam of the product appearing like excess material. When asked to rework on the product to remove the flash, the manufacturer simply trims the flash from the finished product instead of replacing the faulty mold which can cost the factory a fortune. This method is corrective rather than preventive and in the long run, it will cost the company a lot of time to trim the flash and especially if done manually. It is, therefore important that you consider the cost to the company before asking for a product rework. Weigh all available options for rectifying a product defect and you will find that some are more reasonable than others. 2. Will rework affect the shipping deadlines? It is possible to find yourself in a position where you are trying to balance between rectifying defects found during product inspection and the ex-factory date. In such cases your customer is expecting a certain quality product on a specific date. In such circumstances, you might consider skipping rework so as to meet the agreed shipping deadline (Consider: 3 Ways Experienced Importers Avoid Production Delays). The following factors might contribute to delayed deadlines; Working with sub-suppliers If your supplier used sub-suppliers to manufacture different parts of your product, then it might be tricky to have your goods re-worked while at the same time respecting deadline. This is especially because the supplier might not be in a position to fix parts sourced from a sub-supplier. For instance, assume that you are importing a watch but realize that there`s a problem with the wristband. If the wristband is produced by a different factory from the one that deals with assembling watch parts and packaging, it will require your supplier to coordinate with the sub-supplier to rework on the wristband. This will take time which will consequently result in delays in shipping. Holiday related delays In most cases factories will close during public holidays and can even be understaffed a week before such holidays. For instance if you are working with a supplier in China and Vietnam, you should plan well to avoid your order shipping falling within the Lunar New Year period as this can cause delays even if you do not require any reworks. In such case, you should plan you timing well and especially you are working on a tight shipping schedule. In any case, you can communicate with your supplier to confirm whether there are any possible causes of delays on your shipment. If you feel that rework might cause serious delays, you should consider the option of meeting deadlines than fixing minor problems that your clients might not even complain about. 3. Will product rework lead to serious quality defects? Many importers overlook the fact that a product rework might lead to a more serious defect on quality of the product. Before you ask your supplier for a product rework, you should consider possibility of negative effects that the rework might pose on the product. In most cases, product defects occur as a result of handling and by asking for a rework, it means more handling which is likely to cause more damage. Defects as a result of product handling Back to injection molded goods example. Assume you have placed an order of 10,000 ceramic kitchen knives fully packaged. However, the inspection just discovered flash defect on the rubber handle of 10 percent of the knives. After evaluating, you are sure that reworking on the knives won`t cause shipping delays since you have enough lead time. You are also sure that manually trimming the flash won`t take much time or cost the factory a lot of money. Even after all these factors are considered and seem to be working well, the added handling is likely to pose a problem should you consider reworking on the defective batch. Since the knives are packaged in plastic blister packs, the workers will need to first unpackage the knives which might be an aggressive process. They will also need to use a blade on the product to remove excess material from the handle. Both processes exposes the product to more damages such as scratches, dirt, chips, and any other defect that might occur from rework. Therefore, before asking for a product rework, weigh the benefits of a rework versus that of potential new defects that may arise from reworking. This isn`t an easy decision to make but from experience with a particular product and supplier, you will have an idea of the risks involved in reworking. Conclusion Many importers opt in requesting for a product rework as way of handling problems with product quality, however, this is not always the best solution. Rework can be expensive and especially if you consider delays, cost to the factory, and possibility of causing more quality issues. Sometimes defects in a product are a symptom of a greater underlying problem and may suggest lack of attention to detail in product manufacturing or even a problem with the machinery used in production. Before rushing in requesting for a product rework, consider addressing the issue with the factory. Doing this can help you come up with a better solution on how the problem can be fixed or prevented in future. Pointing out the problem will also be helpful to the factory as it can help them improve on their overall quality of operation. Arrange a third-party QC company to check if the rework fixed or proceed before shipping.
